Tour de Trump

“This is an event that can be tremendous in the future, and it can really, very much rival the Tour de France,” Trump said, in reference to his 1989 bicycling competition.

Indeed the first race did include American Tour de France winners Greg LeMond and Andy Hampsten, but by 1990, Trump’s money troubles led him to drop out of sponsoring the event.

The DuPont Corporation took over and renamed the race The Tour DuPont until 1996.

The bicycle race failed to maintain public interest and no longer exists.
