Elected to the House of Representatives in 2000, Issa is a millionaire thanks to the car alarm company he helped found in the 1980s. Issa was CEO of that company, Directed Electronics, and increased sales from $1 million in 1985 to $14 million in 1989 and eventually “about one hundred million.” Issa also served as chairman of the Consumer Electronics Association. Since becoming chair of the House Oversight Committee in 2011, Issa has been a thorn in the Obama administration. He is currently the wealthiest member of Congress, with a net worth of $357.25 million as of fall 2014.
