Paul C. T. Loo, Eureka Forbes, Elizabeth W. Kellerman and Reverend Edmond Walker wanted to establish a private, liberal arts college in Honolulu and, in September 17, 1965, their application for a charter of incorporation for a non-profit corporation called Hawaii Pacific College was granted. This signaled the birth of Hawaii Pacific University (HPU), a private, non-sectarian, co-educational academic institution – the largest private university in the Pacific that offers degrees in the fields of Business Administration, Nursing and International Relations. The University is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association Schools and Colleges.
HPU has two main campuses in Hawaii. The main campus, located in downtown Honolulu, offers courses in business, liberal arts and other general programs. The campus in Kaneohe, Hawaii houses most of the science-related programs. In addition, HPU has an Oceanic Institute and Military Programs, as well as an online or distance education division which offers Masters degree programs: Master of Business Administration, and Master of Arts in Organizational Change.
To apply for admission to HPU’s online degree programs, applicants must complete the University’s application form and send this back, together with other documentation (ie. transcript of records from previously attended academic institutions, proof of bachelor’s degree, referral letters, updated resume). Full details on the application procedure and admissions requirements can be requested from the HPU admissions office.
There is minimal information on the cost of online education at HPU. However there is some data on HPU’s on-campus Master in Business Administration program. For academic year 2010 2011, the cost per credit unit for the MBA program is $710.00. The cost per credit hour for online courses may play around that range. Financial assistance in the form of Veteran’s benefits, tuition assistance, Stafford Loans and VA Top Up funding, is available to eligible students. Students who are in active military duty may be eligible to receive tuition discounts. To find out more about these options, contact the HPU’s financial aid team, or discuss your interest in these packages with an HPU enrollment counselor.
