Because of my background in data mining for business purposes my friend John recently sent me an email with the subject: Top 100 Jobs Hiring Near Me?”
At first I thought he was going to ask for my insight into which jobs he should apply for. Instead, like many job seekers, John was attempting to figure out which respectable companies were currently hiring new employees in his exact demographical area.
John attempted to search Careerbuilder, Monster Indeed, and other job boards, but he typically found the same 5-10 job postings for each major company he stumbled upon.
After a little bit of digging I found that Monster.com recently listed the Top 100 companies that are currently hiring the most workers.
The list features the top 100 employers who use Monster.com to list vacant positions and it is solely based on the number of positions currently posted to the massive jobs portal.
Sales occupations like retail clerks alone saw more than 40,000 new listings in December, with tech and administrative positions also ranking highly.
I realized that making a list of every single location would take me months, so instead I broke down each company into the state where it was headquarters and then using data from SimplyHired, I included a list of states where job openings are the highest.
While I fully understand that this doesn’t exactly answer the “jobs hiring near me” question for all of our readers, it does provide some insight into where you are most likely to find open opportunities and ultimately land a new career.
Take this data and start searching for jobs at your employers of choice, you might just find that perfect job in your geographical location.

If any of these jobs interest you on Monster.com, use the “Advanced search” feature to see if any of the company’s have job openings in your area.
As an example I used Macy’s and listed only positions in New York City. I started by searching for the geographical location I was interested in working: New York City, NY
After hitting search a “Company Search” option is available on the left side. Fill that in with one of the company’s on our list and hit the Enter key.
This helps answer that “jobs hiring near me” question my friend John asked in his email. Monster.com shows both jobs directly in the city of choice and also positions close by.
There’s even a cities nearby feature you can use to determine if a job is available in your exact area. This is a great way to see if one of America’s top hiring companies has available positions near your location.
Careerbuilder, SimplyHired, Indeed, and most other job boards feature this exact type of nearby search functionality. You can sort by company names, job types, even role types (entry level, manager, executive, etc.).
SimplyHired released an employment Outlook study in November 2015 that might help guide your search.
The job placement company found that the biggest growth was in the following areas:
- Pharmacy technician ranks (27.73% increase)
- Operating room technician (26.78% increase)
- Registered nurse (23.93% increase)
- Physical therapist (21.09% increase)
- Licensed practical nurse (17.89% increase)
Apparently it’s a great time to seek out a specialty career in healthcare.
The company’s December 2015 report found that “job listings increased in 11 of the Top 25 largest U.S. metros in December 2015. The metros with the largest gains were San Francisco Bay Area (2.48% month-over-month increase); Washington DC (1.37%); Seattle (1.34%); St. Louis (1.23%); and Boston (1.03%).”
If you live within commuting distance of those major metros, you can increase your chances of landing a job by extending your search a little bit outside of your suburban area.
Here’s a look at the Top 15 cities for job openings. Not surprisingly, the bigger the city, the higher the number of jobs available. However, job growth is 6 of the 10 top metros on SimplyHired’s list experienced declining job postings month-over-month in December 2015.
“Every January, millions of Americans resolve to find a new job that is a better fit for their career goals, skills and personality,” says James Beriker, President and CEO of Simply Hired. “This year, a stronger labor market means there are nearly 10% more job listings today than in January 2015, representing 4.49 million open jobs available for anyone who wants to make a change,” he adds.
The top jobs hiring near me include such great companies as IBM, Verizon, and Bloomberg.
Obviously not every city or state will have such a high caliber of employer available. If you have the option, find what makes you happy and go for it, wherever that may take you.
I probably wasn’t all that helpful to John. Rather than compiling all of this info in a single email, I simply sent him back this email subject with no message in the body.
