While most college students are not going to start the next Facebook in their door rooms, they can pick up some decent spending cash and even pay for their tuition, room & board, and other college expenses, by starting some simple jobs in their spare time.
Here are 10 businesses you can start with very little resources right in your dorm room.
1. Information technology (IT) consulting
Students are constantly having issues with hardware and software. From installing new software to upgrading the RAM in their computers, students are often clueless about important information technology standards they will need in college.
One of the best ways to start this business is to build some organic business. Become the go to guy in your dorm and as word of mouth expands requests for your time you can setup a business.
With so much tech these days you are likely to find plenty of well-paying work from desperate college students.
2. Social media consulting
There are a few very specific social media skills you need to have if you want to excel at this job.
First, you need to understand how to spot important social-media trends. We’re not talking about Twitter trends, but rather understand how social media is being used by company’s to engage customers.
Second, you should be good at advising people and company’s on how they can increase engagement after you examine their current social accounts and gain an understanding of their current strategies.
Be sure to introduce your new clients to social networks beyond Facebook and LinkedIn so they can expand their reach which will look great on your part.
