The Kids Wish Network, modeled after the Make-A-Wish foundation that raises money to help terminally ill kids make one of their dreams come true (such as going to Disneyland or space camp), is rated as the worst charity in the country by Tampa Bay, who chronicled a list of America’s 50 worst charities according to for-profit fundraisers, and comparing money paid to solicitors versus money paid to direct cash aid.
The Kids Wish Network only puts three cents of every dollar toward actually helping the children involved with their so-called charity, pumping a mind blowing $110 million of donated funds into for-profit corporate fundraisers. It’s amazing they even had $4.8 million to dole out to the CEO and the other various companies he owns.
Kids Wish was also in trouble with the IRS in 2011 after failing to properly disclose payouts, and their only defense for all of these offenses was to hire a “crisis manager” who released a weak public statement claiming Kids Wish is “focused on the future.”
