Everyone hates those heartbreaking commercials featuring the sad faces of neglected animals caged up behind bars while sad music plays in the background and some celebrity pleads with you to donate money in order to save a life. Now, there’s even more reason to look contemptuously upon these advertisements which pull at the heartstrings for a relatively unknown and sinister reason: profit.
HSUS has consistently received D grades from Charity Watchdog for not only spending way too much money on salaries and fundraisers instead of donating to shelters, but for misleading donators about how much of the donated funds is used to actually help animals. Most people, unfortunately, don’t realize that local shelters are not supported by HSUS and will not see any of the donated funds, of which as little as 50% goes to supporting programs.
